This is a very good adventure story for a young boy. I found it reminiscent of the stories by Jack London that I read at that age. It provided me with enjoyment and sparked my imagination just as those always did.
Fantastic day away from the hurries and worries of this life and transported to a time of wilderness and simplicity. If you enjoy wilderness reading then you’ll enjoy this tale of adventure.
If you like the works of Jack London, such as "Call of the Wild", you will like this book. Set in the unspoiled wilderness of Canada, it is a story of adventure and danger, friendship and mutual trust. Written in the early 1900's it is suitable for pre-teens and teenagers. It is a refreshing change from modern sexually explicit and violent entertainment.
The Wolf Hunters is a thoroughly enjoyable novel that kept me flipping the page late into the night. The pace is terrific and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next with Wabi, Rod and Mukoki.

I really enjoy the works of James Oliver Curwood. His books are pure escapist entertainment absent the agenda of many modern authors. A throwback to an earlier time? Perhaps, but this is precisely what makes this novel so much fun.

For those looking for the sequel to this book there's good news. The Gold Hunters picks up where this one left off. Although I haven't read it yet, I look forward to joining the characters on their next adventure to see if they do indeed find the gold rumored to be at the third waterfall.
Despite its brevity, this book is an epic adventure of the wild. The plot is a bit scattered and much is left open-ended, but the description of the landscape is vivid and the characters are sympathetic. It suffers slightly from the ignorance of the era with regards to Native Americans but is never racist. A great read that's tons 'O fun.
This story, although a bit dated, is fast-paced and kept my interest. The animal killing scenes were a little over the top, but this author eventually became a conservationist. There is some violence from an ongoing conflict with some Native American (or should I say First Nations) renegades a la Louis L'amour.

This story left me hanging a bit with some loose ends and lots of material for a sequel... It appears that the continuation of this book was published the following year, called The Gold Hunters. I downloaded that and have read enough to see that it is the same characters.
Reading this book was a pleasure. It was good right from the beginng until the end and I have recommended it to my friends. James Currwood's description of the the struggle for life in the Canadian wilderness at the turn of the century kept me wanting to read more. This novel is a well written story of survival, exploration and discovery in what is a harsh but beautifull enviroment, vividly described by the author, if your looking for a great adventure then read "THE WOLF HUNTERS".
